Film #16: TRAINWRECK
1 out of 5 stars
Jesus… what are you people thinking? I’d read so many positive reviews on this film and, quite frankly, I surely saw something different than the rest of you. Simple-minded, gratingly sexist, and utterly cliché, TRAINWRECK fumbles the ball at every turn. I really sone’t know what’s more annoying – the forehead-slapping “stunt casting” or the wooden acting. I mean, when Bill Hader is the one you look to so that you can “ground” the acting… you’re in deep water. And the script… ham-fisted, awkward, and borderline offensive (What, a woman can’t be happy and “complete” until she meets and marries ‘the right man?) is nothing more than a series of sketches that are stitched into a wholly derivative narrative. Why women are embracing this fiasco is anyone guess? I think Schumer has a solid comedic voice and she needs the proper vehicle. Sadly, TRAINWRECK ain’t it.
