Film #284: MONSTER BRAWL
2.75 out of 5 stars
An interesting idea overstays its welcome in this “WWE meets creature feature” inspired flick. Happily, Art Hindle and Dave Foley are along for the ride to save the day, but the film really is just a single idea stretched out to a 90 minutes run-time. The fighting is straight out of Professional Wrestling School and the FX are for the most part pretty good. It’s just that MONSTER BRAWL really brings nothing more than its premise to the table. I mean, the film is in the title – we have MONSTERS… and they’re BRAWLING! Bim! Bam! Boom! No burying the lead there. A fun, but simple-minded flick (which is something I’m sure the filmmakers themselves would agree with). Well worth renting and perfect for ‘drinking with friends” nights. The gore is a little heavy for kids, but… that’s gonna be your call as a parent. Enjoyable, but flawed.
