Film #290: THE REEDS
3 out of 5 stars
A qualified 3 star rating. Shot on grainy film stock, this entry in the After Dark Horror Fest has its moments IF you can overlook some improbable plot devices (a guy gets run through by a length of metal and stays alive and moving for quite some time) and wild coincidences. The acting is all very British, and even though the actors are aged in their 20s, they’re playing teens - teens who do EVERYTHING wrong. The setting of the marshes is a suitable (and pretty spooky) one, but the “twist” ending defies logic & reason. You won’t hate THE REEDS (you might even like it) but it’s nothing you’ll rave about to your friends. A lack of gore and an abundance of character stupidity may irritate some. THE REEDS is not the best of the After Dark Shit Fest, but it’s also not nearly the worst.
