Film #291: PREDATORS
3.5 out of 5 stars
Another rewatch! With a plot that is remarkably similar to the first film, Adrien Brody channels his inner tough guy for a fun little ride. Yes, there are some plot holes you can drive a truck through, but the action moves quickly and never gives you a lot of time to think about things. Danny Trejo and Laurence Fishburne are woefully under-utilized, but the rest of the cast does enough heavy lifting to make up for it. The monsters are cool and there is a twist with them that allows the mythos to breathe a little without seeming contrived (are you listening ALIENS VS PREDATOR franchise?). While the film does seem all too familiar, director Nimrod Antal crafts some cool shots and knows a thing or two about staging action sequences. Not terribly original, but fun as hell.
