Film #50: CRIMINALLY INSANE
Criminally Insane
1 out of 5 stars
Low budget, poorly lit, and badly acted, CRIMINALLY INSANE is an absolute mess. Director Nick Millard directs this train-wreck of an exploitation film from 1975. The film has all the productions values of an early Romero film, MANOS: HANDS OF FATE, or a porn loop. The film features a tape library score, tempura paint blood, and is pretty racist (“That Jew down the street!”). The story – such as it is – is one-dimensional and is essentially “crazy fat girl goes on killing rampage when her mother puts her on a diet.” Yes, you read that right… Only an hour long, CRIMINALLY INSANE is something in which fans of 70’s-era grindhouse may find something of interest, but damned if I could. Dated and well, pretty bad… a sequel was made for some ungodly reason in 1987. This one is just plain awful – skip it!
