Film #89: MUCHA SANGRE
3.5 out of 5 stars
OK, so follow me on this one… a group of aliens come to Earth and, masquerading as gangsters, they set themselves up as crime kingpins and begin to sodomize men… turning them into zombies. Still with me? Ok, so, two guys break out of prison, kidnap a woman (Isabel del Toro – who looks a little like a Hispanic Jewel Shephard from RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), and go try to retrieve some money owed to them by head of the local syndicate (played by the great Paul Naschy) who’s been infected by the aforementioned aliens. Anyway, the plot is pretty superfluous to be honest… what follows though is an absolute gorefest along the lines of things like Peter Jackson’s BAD TASTE & DEAD/ALIVE (aka BRAINDEAD), EVIL DEAD 2, and FROM DUSK TILL DAWN. The plot rumbles along with gratuitous limb removal and subsequent growing back (only to be chainsawed off again… lather, rinse, repeat), splattery sight gags, and tons – I mean, TONS - of gore. Trust me, in its own weird way, it all makes sense and winds up being a helluva lot of fun. Park your intellect at the door and strap in for absolute silliness… served up with a bucket of blood & guts. Oh, there’s also a great score on this one. Recommended, but remember, this ain’t no art film. So, pop a beer, sit back, and enjoy!
