Film #120: DEAD RISING
1 out of 5 stars
Back in January of 2010, Capcom announced that it would be producing a feature film called "Shibyou Osen Dead Rising," or literally "Death Disease Contamination Dead Rising." ("Shibyou" is the Japanese name for the infection in the Dead Rising story that turns people into zombies.). The film was to be DEAD RISING videogame producer Keiji Inafune's debut as a director. The live action movie was to be set in an area of Japan that has been quarantined following the spread of the zombifying disease. The story follows brothers Shin and Jouji who must escape from a town full of zombies. Inafune directed the the movie and also worked on the script along with Makoto Ikehara. The movie was produced by Capcom and Digital Frontier… and is REALLY, REALLY terrible. Just AWFUL. From the gratuitous hand-held camera work, to the incomprehensible script, to the schizophrenic directing & the amateur hour special FX… the DEAD RISING film is a mess: the humans are reprehensible, the zombies are not in any way a threat and the film lacks even a single scare in its entire runtime. Complete shit on all levels, which is surprising considering the fact that Capcom certainly has enough money in its pockets to fund a decent movie. Avoid this crap at any cost.
