Film #172: THE LAST DAYS ON MARS
The Last Days on Mars
2.5 out of 5 stars
Despite a clichéd premise (team of space pioneers about to leave a planet for home encounter unknown space beastie) and a seemingly casual disregard for science, director Ruairi Robinson gives us an interesting – albeit flawed – space thriller. Liev Schreiber, Elias Koteas, and Olivia Williams are along for the ride but are given little to do other than stumble around in the dark and breathing heavy. The film – basically ALIEN meets a zombie film – has its moments of palpable tension (and when they land they REALLY land), but overall the project is forgettable and unconvincing. A fun little timewaster… but, given the premise, it should have been better.
