Film #188: PANIC BEATS
Panic Beats
3 out of 5 stars
Paul Naschy probes a distinctly DIABOLIQUE set-up in this uneven outing. Naschy plays a rich man with lady trouble in that there are far too many of them in his life. The plot moves slowly, but manages to keep the viewer’s interest and the acting is, well… it’s a Naschy film so you kind of know what you’re going to get ahead of time. The narrative can be a little talky, but the end creatures are pretty damn cool and scary. Some nudity is included just in case you get bored. Mondo Macabro does another solid job with the film’s DVD presentation. While PANIC BEATS is by no means one of Naschy’s best films, it still won’t leave you cold. A little tightening would have been nice, but… still a solid outing.
