Film #365: ROMAN DE GARE aka CROSSED TRACKS
Roman de Gare (aka Crossed Tracks)
4 out of 5 stars
What a surprise… This decidedly French mystery from director Claude Lelouch (THE CROOK) is a maze of plot twists and turns with a heart that beats strong and fierce. The direction of the film is calm and assured, but not so much that time is not taken for absolutely beautiful moments that strike to the heart of the story. The acting is spot-on especially Dominique Pinon (AMELIE, CITY OF LOST CHILDREN, MICMACS) who does turns as both menacing and utterly charming. This one came out of nowhere for me and I ended up liking it a LOT. Recommended for fans of both French mysteries and films with heart, ROMAN DE GARE is a multi-layered film that pleases on all fronts. Recommended!
