Film #89: WILD WONDERFUL WHITES OF WEST VIRGINIA
The Wild Wonderful Whites of West Virginia
2.5 out of 5 stars
A very well-made documentary which details the lives of a notorious family from West Virginia. While the film itself is solid, man… The family it introduces us to are like something from another planet. White trash doesn’t even come close. Habitual thieves, drug addicts, criminals… The Whites are by no means “noble criminals.” These are some of the lowest individuals on the planet. However, as the film goes along, one notices that deep within the brashness and redneck hell-raisin’, they are still people and have a certain nobility. Look, I get it… the “outlaw culture” and all. But at their core, The Whites are more of a sociology experiment gone awry than a subject worthy of a documentary. Well-made… but unworthy.
