Film #118: NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: REANIMATED

Out of the box, my concern over this wildly uneven project was, “Why would I want to see dozens upon dozens of different artist’s interpretations of a cinematic classic when it would so much easier to just watch the original?” Sadly, the answer is… “You don’t.” Basically, what we have her are little snippets (some mere seconds long) of different artists illustrating NOTLD. The resulting shifts in art styles are so jarring that it does nothing but annoy the viewer. Now, that’s not to say that some of the art isn’t bad… but most of it is akin to something you’d see scribbled across a high school Goth girl’s Pee-Chee folder. Add to that is the intro / outro which has some Grade Z actor dressed like Dracula and sounding like The Count from Sesame Street and you have a thoroughly stomach-turning affair. What might have been a better idea was a total retooling of the property rather than this dreadful rehash. I can only assume that the only reason this got made was because NOTLD was in the public domain and easily procured. This is, IMO, grave-robbing of the highest order.
