Film #212: HAYWIRE
3 out of 5 stars
A rewatch for fight choreography / technique. A by-the-book action flick made notable solely by Soderbergh’s presence. A workable cast delivers bare bones performances culled from the wonkiest of scripts (even by action movie standards). That said… there is a general feel to the film which is really reminiscent of 70s-era genre films. Further, the action sequences are very well executed. Carano is eye-catching and the camera adores her. What’s great is that she makes the physical stuff look natural (she is an MMA fighter) and therefore that much more real. There’s nothing here that’s genre defining, but the film is fun and again… the fight’s are nifty.
