Film #225: GOODNIGHT, WE LOVE YOU
Goodnight, We Love You
3 out of 5 stars
A career retrospective on the great Phyllis Diller by way of a film crew documenting her final stand-up performance. The documentary is exactly what you’d expect: Diller talking about her life, footage of her relaxing at home, footage of her arriving at the venue, checking in, and finally, her performing her final show. Lots of stars give testimonials on how important she was to their comedy and she talks a lot about her influences. The film is well made and it holds the interest. If you’re a fan of Phyllis Diller, then you’ll love the flick. If not, this certainly won’t win you over. It’s fun, but not life-changing. Rentable… but mostly as a document of the woman herself.
