Film #228: WEREWOLF OF WASHINGTON
Werewolf of Washington
2 out of 5 stars
A ridiculously ham-fisted take on the legend of the werewolf starring the ubiquitous Dean Stockwell. Made in 1973, the film is stiff, slow, and well… rather silly. According to some press for the film, the flick was supposedly a comedic riff on the Nixon Administration, but quite frankly the link is tenuous, at best. Instead, we get a clumsy take on THE WOLF MAN made for $1.98. When the Wolfman finally shows up, it ends up looking more like a Shih Tzu on steroids than any fearsome beast of legend. As horror films go, this one’s not particularly good. As a comedy, it’s all played a little too broad to be taken seriously. Another in a long line of middle-of-the-road takes on the genre with little to no pay-off.
