Music: Thom Yorke ANIMA / Willie Nelson RIDE ME BACK HOME
Thom Yorke ANIMA
More morose electronica from the Radiohead leader. The music is melancholic and sparse… and is sorta interesting, I guess. Overall, the record feels cold, sanitized, and is lacking heart: kiiiiinda boring and empty feeling. Okay, but… this is mostly for pre-existing fans.
Willie Nelson RIDE ME BACK HOME
This is Willie doin’ what Willie does best! Great performances, great arrangements: simple , but effective. Highlights: “Immigrant Eyes” and “Nobody Listening” are, as they say, ‘torn from the headlines.’ Missteps: an odd cover of Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are.” That said… the record is cool and Willie is a living legend. I’m not much of a country fan, but… I dug this.
